Raising achievement at Unsworth
At Unsworth, we are proud of the significant progress we have made in raising standards and improving outcomes for all our pupils. Through a steadfast commitment to inclusion, high-quality teaching and pupil wellbeing, we have cultivated a nurturing and aspirational environment where every child is empowered to succeed.
The results of our collective efforts speak for themselves:
- Key Stage 2 outcomes have improved dramatically, with the percentage of pupils meeting the expected standard in reading, writing, and maths rising from 59% to 82%— an 23% increase
- Pupil progress has accelerated across all year groups, particularly in core subjects
- Confidence, engagement and positive attitudes to learning have increased significantly among pupils
- Year 6 pupils are consistently well-prepared for the transition to secondary school
- Family partnerships have strengthened, contributing to improved attendance and greater support for learning at home
- A culture of high expectations is now firmly embedded throughout the school
How we achieved this
We introduced a comprehensive system of academic and pastoral interventions to ensure that every child receives the support they need. This includes small-group tuition, in-class assistance and personalised learning plans tailored to individual needs. Regular pupil progress conversations and key tracking systems have also supported this accelerated progress.
Our teaching and learning strategy is built on consistency, challenge and support. Staff benefit from ongoing professional development and we have implemented clear teaching frameworks to ensure that every lesson is purposeful, engaging and inclusive.
We place pupil wellbeing at the centre of everything we do. Our whole-school focus on mental health, emotional literacy and resilience ensures that children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
We work in close partnership with families to foster a strong, positive school culture. Initiatives such as ‘Meet the Teacher’ events, year 6 SATs information evenings and phonics workshops have enhanced parental engagement. The introduction of the SeeSaw platform has further strengthened the home-school connection, enabling parents to actively participate in their child’s learning journey.
Our school environment reflects our high expectations - bright, welcoming classrooms, clear routines and a strong sense of pride in our community. Pupils are encouraged to aim high, believe in themselves and celebrate their achievements.
