We want pupils who leave our schools to leave with memories that stay with them and help shape them into who they are. We believe pupils should have moments of awe, inspiration and joy, which are character building and create positivity in our communities. We also want pupils to have those one-off experiences that they talk about forever, the ‘I’ll never forget when we...’ moments.
That is why we created Oak Experiences. Each of our schools is allocated funding every year to shape these experiences for their own context. It could be a residential, a visit to Oxford University or a visit from an inspirational speaker - the options are endless and varied and each school does it differently, tailored to their pupils.
Oak Experiences support our commitment to a broad and balanced curriculum, ensuring that every child has the chance to thrive in different ways.
Enriching education through experience
For example, Unsworth Primary School has its ‘50 things to do at Unsworth' scheme, offering children a wide range of life experiences that help them grow in confidence, curiosity and independence. From the Year 6 residential in a castle, camping on the school field and singing around a campfire, to visiting museums, theatres and places of worship, each activity is carefully chosen to broaden horizons and spark new interests.
Children have met a real-life explorer and listened to his thrilling adventures at the South Pole and held exotic creatures from all over the world. The younger children have learnt to ride bikes for the first time and older ones have learnt about riding safely around the roads and used public transport for the first time - all experiences that not only create lasting memories but also build essential life skills.
